Did you know that in some parts of Canada, the word tabernacle is actually a swear word? (Source: today's Washington Post.)

In French Canada the word tabernacle is used as a swear word. As are Christ Child, the Eucharist, the Blessed Virgin, the Sacred Blue (referring to the Blessed Virgin), and the Little Christ (referring to the Blessed Sacrament) (among others. . .). Sadly, most of the people who use these words as swear words don't even realize their actual literal meaning.

(I don't live in Quebec but I attended a Francophone School where such words were sadly often used by my peers. . . even sadder still was the fact that most of these young French Canadians had never set foot in a church.)
