St Michael Pray for Us

The battle for Catholic Tradition is a spiritual one.

Sancte Michael Archangele,
defende nos in proelio.
contra nequitiam et insidias diaboli esto praesidium.
Imperet illi Deus, supplices deprecamur:
Tu que, Princeps militiae coelestis,
Satanam aliosque spiritus malignos,
qui ad perditionem animarum pervagantur in mundo,
divina virtute, in infernum detrude.
Amen.

Nicholas

O God, Who didst adorn blessed Nicholas, the bishop, with miracles unnumbered, grant, we beseech Thee, that by his merits and prayers we may be delivered from the fires of hell. Through the same Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, one God, forever and ever.

Saint Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra in Asia Minor, from the childlike innocence of his own life and his devout care for the young, is looked upon as the patron of children. He died in the middle of the Fourth Century, and seven hundred years later his holy relics were translated to Bari in Italy. Because of the power he exercised over flames, we pray that through his intercession we may be preserved from the flames of hell. He is remembered for the money which he threw in a window that three young girls might have a dowry for their marriage.

Luke. Evangelist.

(Honestly, I thought this was George Washington at first glance.)

Beloved:
Demas, enamored of the present world,
deserted me and went to Thessalonica,
Crescens to
Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia.
Luke is the only one with me.
Get Mark and bring him with you,
for he is helpful to me in the ministry.
I have sent Tychicus to
Ephesus.
When you come, bring the cloak I left with Carpus in
Troas,
the papyrus rolls, and especially the parchments.

Alexander the coppersmith did me a great deal of harm;
the Lord will repay him according to his deeds.
You too be on guard against him,
for he has strongly resisted our preaching.

At my first defense no one appeared on my behalf,
but everyone deserted me.
May it not be held against them!
But the Lord stood by me and gave me strength,
so that through me the proclamation might be completed
and all the Gentiles might hear it. --
2 Tm 4:10-17b

KC News

A Fr. McGivney stained glass window--which will be installed by the end of the month--has been sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council at St. Charles Borromeo, so the following news is appropriate:

Cardinal says he'll personally work on cause of Knights' founder | by Andy Telli | Catholic News Service

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CNS) -- Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the second highest ranking official at the Vatican, told members of the Knights of Columbus that he is taking a personal interest in the beatification process for the order's founder, Father Michael McGivney.

"I hope this recognition (of sanctity) will arrive soon, and I'll personally work on this, so that this day will come soon," Cardinal Bertone said during his homily, delivered in Italian, at the Aug. 7 opening Mass of the Knights of Columbus' 125th annual national convention at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville.

Cardinal Bertone's comments on the sainthood cause of Father McGivney were met with applause from the Knights attending the Mass…

John the Forerunner

O Prophet and Forerunner of the presence of Christ, we who fervently honor you cannot worthily praise you. For by your revered and glorious birth the barrenness of your mother and the muteness of your father were unbound, and the incarnation of the Son of God is proclaimed to the world. - Apolytikion in the Fourth Tone

Ora pro nobis

“The firm purpose and desire which We resolved upon at the beginning of Our Pontificate to consecrate all the energy which the good Lord deigns to grant Us in the work of restoring all things in Christ, reawakens in Our heart a great trust in the all powerful grace of God. Without that grace We can neither plan nor undertake anything great or fruitful for the good of souls here below.” -- Pope St. Pius X | IL FERMO PROPOSITO | June 11, 1905

New Saints Simon, Charles, Anne and George

Pope Benedict canonised four new saints, people who worked in Ireland, France, Poland and Malta. The Pontiff told thousands of pilgrims braving pouring rain in St. Peter's Square that the new saints, whose lives spanned from the 15th to the 20th century, would be spiritual guides for the Roman Catholic faithful.

"May these new saints accompany you with their prayers and inspire you by the example of their holy lives," he said.

Heads of state from Ireland, Malta, Poland and the Philippines attended the canonisation - the final moment on the long path to sainthood during which the Church examines the holiness of a person's life and verifies claims of miracles attributed to their intercession with God.

The four new saints are: Simon of Lipnica, a monk who lived in 15th century Poland; Charles of St. Andrew, a Dutch preacher who worked in Ireland where he was known as Charles of Mount Argus; Anne Marie Eugenie, who gave her life to religious teaching in 19th century France; and George Preca, a Maltese preacher who died in 1962. – Reuters

Misneach *

He was a terror to any snake that came in his path, whether it was the cold, slimy reptile sliding along the ground or the more dangerous snake that oppresses men through false teachings. And he drove the snakes out of the minds of men, snakes of superstition and brutality and cruelty. ~Arthur Brisbane

Fatima Prayer

Prayer taught by Our Lady

Sister Lucia relates in the 4th Memoir that, on 13 July 1917, Our Lady recommended:

"Sacrifice yourselves for sinners, and say many times, especially when you make some sacrifice: O Jesus, it is for love of You, for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation for the sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary."

In the same apparition, Our Lady added:

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins. Save us from the fires of Hell; lead all souls into Heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy.

Seven Disguises In Which God Frequently Sends His Graces

In the disguise of ingratitude from friends.
In the disguise of being misunderstood.
In the disguise of failure.
In the disguise of being dishonored.
In the disguise of sickness.
In the disguise of poverty.
In the disguise of our daily work.

Our Lord isn’t anxious for us to suffer so let’s not complain to Him any more than is necessary! He sees us in our misery and looks forward to our final victory. If we could only appreciate the great work He’s doing in preparing these crosses for us. - St. Thérèse of Lisieux

Saint Dymphna

Feast day: May 15
Patroness of the Nervous, and Emotionally Disturbed
and the Mentally Ill

Saint Dymphna was born in the seventh century. Her father, Damon, a chieftain of great wealth and power, was a pagan. Her mother was a very beautiful and devout Christian.

Dymphna was fourteen when her mother died. After his wife's death, Damon is said to have been afflicted with a mental illness, brought on by his grief and because Dympna resembled her mother, he conceived a passion for his daughter. He sent messengers throughout his own and other lands to find some woman of noble birth, resembling his wife, who would be willing to marry him. When none could be found his evil advisers told him to marry his own daughter. Dymphna fled from the castle together with Saint Gerebernus, her chaplain, and two other friends. They settled at Gheel, near the Belgian city of Antwerp, where Dympna devoted herself to helping the poor and the sick.

Damon found them in Belgium, tracing them through coins spent on their journey. When Dympna continued to reject the unnatural marriage, her father gave orders that Gerebernus' head be cut off. He tried to persuade his daughter to return to Ireland with him. When she refused, he drew his sword and struck off her head. She was then only fifteen years of age.

Dymphna received the crown of martyrdom in defense of her purity about the year 620. She is the patron of those suffering from nervous and mental afflictions. Many miracles have taken place at her shrine, built on the spot where she was buried in Gheel, Belgium, where her blood was shed. Cures for madness and epilepsy were attributed to Dympna's intercession and in the thirteenth century the bishop of Cambrai commissioned a "Life of Dympna" which drew on oral tradition. Local people also discovered two marble tombs which they believed angels had brought in honor of the saints.

Today she is Belgium's patron saint of the insane, and for centuries Gheel has been noted for the care and treatment of the mentally ill.
