Shepherd me, O God

Shepherd me, O God beyond my wants,
beyond my fears, from death into life.

God is my shepherd, so nothing shall I want,
I rest in the meadows of faithfulness and love,
I walk by the quiet waters of peace.

Gently you raise me and heal my weary soul,
You lead me by pathways of righteousness and truth,
my spirit shall sing the music of your Name.

You have set me a banquet of love
in the face of hatred,
crowning me with love beyond my pow’r to hold.

Surely your kindness and mercy follow me
all the days of my life;
I will dwell in the house of my God forevermore.

I love this Psalm. I sang/played it Saturday for my son's First Communion and Confirmation. What a blessing to see my child receive such wonderful sacraments. Even better was walking to Communion right behind him today and watching him receive the Body and Blood up close...brought tears to my eyes.

One of the joys of having five children is all the sacraments I get to experience with them. :-)

How surprising to see this modernist song setting on such a traditionalist site. Maybe God can change hearts!

Even Marty H. can't mess up Psalm 23. This song and Creator Of The Stars Of Night (an ancient melody) are my ONLY Haugen faves.The rest is modernist navel-gazing fuzz.
